Small Business Problems- Only two broken solutions

In working with small businesses over the years and meeting with many small business owners, there seems to be a common trend in the business model, a problem when getting started, getting momentum. When the founder starts the business (without funding) they are forced to wear many hats, doing every part of the business themselves. They are the Marketing director, the Human Resource Manager, the Operations and General Manager, the bookkeeper, and more.

Who are Founders:

When a founder starts a business, they usually do so because they have an idea, a talent, or something they are really good at. If someone has a passion for design and fashion they might start their own clothing brand, if someone is good at fixing things, they might start a handyman business. While this founder might be the best at their craft, they now face a problem. While they are ‘the best in the businesses in their specific field, they are not the best marketer, not the best at processes, operations, don’t know the laws on Human Resources, and can’t read a spreadsheet much less create one. However, they want to be business owners, they want their product to show, so they go for it and try to balance everything.

The Small Business Problem:

In the midst of handling everything, they hit a problem; they either grew too big to keep handling everything, or they are not getting business because they are handling everything. These are both big issues and the solution for both is GET HELP!

The Small Business Dilemma:

They reach a point where up until now they have 2 options:

1. They can hire someone: Hiring an employee is great but it does come with costs such as salary, benefits, insurance, and more! The real issue though is that IF they can afford an employee, they can only hire one. They cannot hire a marketing manager and a human resource manager; they can’t get an in-house bookkeeper while paying a receptionist. No, they can pick one, try and find someone with knowledge about everything but that means bigger bills (Bigger salary). The overhead is just too high, plus even if they could afford this, there may or may not even be enough work in that field for them. You cannot go 100% on marketing and grow your business 10x while ignoring operations. You cannot form the perfect schedule, perfect system while never looking at your books. NO… All aspects of ones business need to be worked on and balanced all at once. Which brings us to solution number 2:

2. Outsourcing: Again, outsourcing works well, and is probably the more realistic solution at this point, however there are issues to outsourcing as well:

a. Company Culture: When you outsource a company, you are taking aspects of your business outside of your company. That company you hire becomes part of your company culture whether you like it or not. If you are preaching your core values as ‘Honesty’ and your marketer writes any blog with any content to make you rank higher, that core value will weaken throughout your company.

b. Plans and pricing: There are many great outsourcing companies out there and there may or may not be the perfect plan for you. However, the issue is they all do have their own plans and pricing. You may just need an occasional tweak on your website but the Marketing company you hire cheapest plan runs all of your SEO, SERP, GMB, and more. While these are all good things and will benefit your business, it might not have been where you needed to focus your money at that point in time. This is a problem with outsourcing companies if you play by their rules, their pricing, their plans.

c. Processes: Another issue is processes, when you outsource the company may be very smooth, very great and useful processes but when outsourcing 6 different companies who all have very different processes and lines of communication, office hours, etc. as you, you run into issues trying to get a hold of someone, “that is not how we do things,” long wait times, etc.

Solution for Startups:

Both options work well for certain companies, but they can be problematic for others. Having only these two options has been the norm for a long time, but as the world shifts to task-based management a third option is arising. Buzzy Work Pro, by Scribe Startups, is your high-level Administrative Assistant. We offer a task-based system to handle all of the initial outsourcing for small businesses and startups. If you are at the point where you need to hire someone but can’t afford to, or no outsourcing plan is working for you, there is now a third option. We are task-based admins from one off tasks to subscription plans.

Small businesses and startups don’t have that consistent workflow, one day they might have more work than they could ever do and need to work on their operations, the next day their schedule is empty, and they need to market their business. Small businesses are reactive, they don’t necessarily need consistent plans that they are constantly paying for, they need the one-off tasks that come up in their business. With Buzzy Work Pro, you pay for a certain number of tasks per month, you only use a task upon completion of the tasks, and if you don’t use all your tasks for the month they carry over!

Buzzy Work Pro’s vision is growth, we don’t want to be your solution for forever, we want to help you grow to the point where you can afford to hire those in-house employees, then help train them for you so you are not starting with square one! We want to leave you with employees who know what challenges we have faced in your business; we want you to grow out of us!
